Professor Oleksandr N. Mushkudiani, a member of the National Ukrainian Writers’ Union, the National Ukrainian Journalists’ Union, specialized scientific degrees boards, head the department
O. Mushkudiani is the editor-in-chief of the KIU collected volume of scientific articles (literature studies) launched in 1999 and Orientalis almanac started in 2004. He is the author of more than 150 scientific works.
O. Mushkudiani is a scientific advisor for many post-graduate students that eventually find themselves at various education institutions of Ukraine and Georgia.
The department ensures teaching the following disciplines: History of World Literature (Oriental literature), History of World Literature (Western literature), History of Ukrainian literature, Introduction to Literary Studies, Basics of Literature Theory, History of Ukrainian Culture, Topical Problems of Literature Studies, Comparative Literature, Cultural and Religious Traditions of the World.
The department focuses on researching Ukrainian literature in the context of the world literature.
The Department professors work at all institutes and faculties of the university.
