Sociology and Social Control Department

The students of Sociology and Social Control Department work for Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Master’s Degree in Social Work.

The department provides teaching of the following disciplines related to sociology, social and state control, social processes in all Institutes and faculties of Kyiv International University.

Sociology and Social Control Department is headed by the well-known specialist in social work, sociology, and pedagogy professor Oleksandr I. Pylypenko, co-author of Preventive Education Concept, Concept of Peer-to-Peer Education on Healthy Life-style of the Youth of Ukraine, developer, coordinator and executor of a number of WHO, UNESCO, UNAIDS and EU programmes and projects.

Sociology and Social Control Department is aimed at training highly qualified sociologists and social workers with the help of thorough knowledge and skills. KIU graduate holds a leading position in sociology, social work, and social control, different social and creative projects. The educative process creates such conditions which have already enabled to show a competitive, creative potential and to nourish such a feature as high level of general culture, erudition, dignity, and self-reliance. Our students are marked by a high level of competitiveness at the labour market, optimistic character, inner-directedness, kindness, mutual help, and team spirit. The high level of English training gives a possibility to work in international programmes, projects, and organizations.

The professors of Sociology and Social Control Department are leading scholars with significant practical work experience. All professors of the department have academic ranks and degrees.

The department invites leading domestic and foreign scholars and practicians to give lectures and master classes, in particular, representatives of institute of sociology nаs of ukraine, Sociological Association of Ukraine, system of social services, international and non-governmental organizations.

Educational-cultural and research work of students:

a) students take a unique for Ukraine course “University education”/ The aim of this course is to expand knowledge as for different sides of a human life, to become closer to sources of world and Ukrainian history and culture. The content of this course includes data from different spheres of scientific knowledge which enable students to become highly educated and well-mannered persons;

b) the department also organizes and supervises the work of the research teams – “Research technologies” and “Sociological imagination”. While taking part in these research teams students acquire systemic, analytical, creative, and innovative thinking. The participants of the research teams together with the professors of the department conduct researches on topical social topics. They prepare reports and take part in the conferences, “round tables”, discussions, television projects on development of modern sociology, social work, social control, and other interesting issues;

c) students involve volunteers of leading social projects and programmes of international and domestic organizations as trainers and participants of trainings;

d) on the basis of the university research teams the department provides conditions of realization of students’ creative skills in different kinds of the activity: dramatic, artistic, singing, dancing and sport.

Practical training of students

The department provides a modern model of students’ traineeship. The aim of practical training is to form the professional understanding of the essence of practical work, deepening and ability to use the acquired knowledge in future occupation.

Students undergo practical session in leading institutions and organizations in the social control sphere.
