The department of oriental philology of Kyiv International University provides teaching of the following languages: Arabic, Korean, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, and Malaysian as well as Hindi, Farsi, Dari in the Institutes of Linguistics and International Relations.

 

Head of the department is professor Iryna V. Timenko.

 

The department includes experienced specialists with the long work experience; almost every person underwent training in the countries which language s/he teaches. The teacher-representative of the country is always involved in the study of every language.

 

Through establishing relations with representatives of embassies of Egypt, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Morocco, Korea, Iran, Turkey, India and Japan, as well as with public organizations and language centres of the countries, which languages are studied in the University, students have a possibility to improve knowledge in Oriental languages, having practical sessions in the embassies of the Orient, in international companies and others. Besides, they take part in different events, meetings conducted under the auspices of the embassies at the University.

 

The University has a very large library, audio and video library which are constantly enriched. All students without exception are provided with teaching materials, the main part of which was brought from foreign study centres or granted by the embassies of the countries.

 

The staff of the department of oriental philology continues working on the study of the complex topic: “Cognitive and discourse structures of oriental languages in the social cultural space of communication”.

 

The teachers of the department take an active part in international, all-Ukrainian, regional conferences, meetings, seminars of language centres as well as attend classes of leading professors of the University.

 

Language study is carried out in specialized study rooms. The department organizes and supervises:

 

·         The Centre for Hindi Studies;

·         The Indonesian Centre;

·         The Iranian Cultural Centre;

·         The Centre for Malaysian Language and Culture Studies;

·         The Centre for Chinese Studies;

·         The Centre for Arabic Studies;

·         The Centre for Korean Studies;

·         The Room for Japanese Studies;

·         The Room for Turkish Studies.

 

Kyiv International University has become the first and the only educational institution in Ukraine where the Malaysian language is studied.

 

The department carries out an extensive work to involve students in research activity, research paper preparing, and participation in student scientific conferences. The department organized the scientific club “Orientalist”, where the students work on the study of speech phenomena in foreign languages and cultural aspects of the countries languages of which are studied.

 

The students take part in national Olympiads in Oriental languages.

 

Besides, the students can have language training in China, India and Korea.

 

On November 18, 2005 the Agreement of Friendship, Cooperation and Exchange between Tianjin University of Technology (People's Republic of China) and Kyiv International University (Ukraine) was signed to establish friendly relations and develop cooperation between Tianjin University of Technology (People's Republic of China) and Kyiv International University (Ukraine) in the sphere of education and scientific researches as well as to arrange cultural exchanges making bilateral efforts in development of international relations in the sphere of higher education, the parties agreed to sign an agreement on partnership and exchanges.

 

The programme of exchange and cooperation stipulates:

-          exchange of the teaching staff for education and research work;

-          exchange of students and scholarships;

-          fulfilment of the international programme on M-N cooperation which presupposes new specialities;

-          scientific and special researches;

-          organization of joint presentations, international scientific seminars etc.;

-          mutual assistance in art and cultural events.

 

Every year under this exchange programme the students of the Institute of International Relations undergo training at Tianjin University of Technology (People's Republic of China).

 

Every year India offers to all to complete a course of distance Hindi study at the International Centre for promoting Hindi in the world in Deli and to get an international certificate.
