International and Comparative Law Department
International
and Comparative Law Department has been functioning as a separate
department of the Institute of International Relations since 1998. The teaching
is provided by highly qualified doctors and candidates of Law, professors and
associate professors.
The department is headed by professor Tetiana V. Danchenko.
The Department provides teaching of the following
subjects:
International public law, international private law,
international treaties law, law of international organizations, international
legal environment protection, international litigation, international air law,
international investment law, international maritime law, international
commercial arbitration, the legal system today, comparative constitutional law,
comparative administrative law, comparative criminal law, comparative civil and
family law, comparative legal system, history of international law,
international economic law and others.
A number of unique subjects that are copyrighted
portfolio of the specialists of the department are introduced in the
educational process in International Law and taught only in Kyiv International
University; among them are: international labour law, the Agreement on
Partnership and Co-operation between Ukraine and EU, problems of integration of
Ukraine into the EU legal space, the international protection of intellectual
property, legal regulation of interference, the EU economic law, EU
environmental law.
In general, the department provides teaching in
Ukrainian and English of more than 50 subjects. Much attention is paid to the
practical orientation of training. Among the lecturers of the department there
are professional practitioners who share their own practical experience with
the students. They are employees of ministries and departments, committees of
the Verkhovna Rada of
Ukraine.
Priority of the department is the combination of
theoretical knowledge with practical skills of students. The study of number of
different practical courses contributes to it, namely: the jurisprudence of the
Council of Europe, the practical course of international law, international
trial which takes place at the court room "Moot Court”. This year another
practical training started its work which is held by the prominent U.S. lawyers
- the use of the jury in the United States. In addition, students of the
specialty "International law" have practical training in such
institutions and government bodies like committees of the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine,
Supreme Court of Ukraine, Council of Europe Information Centre in Ukraine, the
International Red Cross, etc.
Due to well-organized practical training, KyIU students are constantly involved in various
international competitions. KyIU teams overcome
national barriers to participate in prestigious European and international
competitions. Nine years straight teams of international lawyers trained by our
professors won prizes in the national and international rounds of such
prestigious international student competitions as competition for international
public law named after B. Telders and Competition
named after Jessup.
Thus, in 2004 KyIU team was
ahead of world famous Harvard, in 2003 that team entered the top five best
teams of the International Competition named after B. Telders
and in 2001 took the second place at the competition.
In 2003, students of KyIU
represented Ukraine in the most prestigious competition of International
Humanitarian Law named after Jeanne Pikte (Athens,
Greece).
In 2007 fourth year students in International Law
participated in the international competition "International criminal
court model” which took place in Poland and took a second place.
Moreover, in May 2008 Kyiv International University
was a co-organizer with the International Committee of the Red Cross of the
International student competition in international humanitarian law for
students of higher educational institutions in Ukraine and Moldova. The KyIU team also participated in competitions and presented
our University in a worthy manner.
In February 2009 a KyIU team
won the national round of the Competition named after F. Jessup and in April
presented KyIU and Ukraine in Washington city at the international round.
