International Economic Relations Department

International Economic Relations Department is one of the structural subdivisions of the Institute of International Relations which provides teaching, methodical, scientific, research and educational work in the International Economic Relations Department and International Business.

Head of the department is associate professor Olena M. Matusova.

The Department provides training of specialists in international economics who are ready for highly qualified analytic, organizational and research work in world economy and international economic relations’ field. The functional duties of the specialist are connected with the analysis of modern tendencies and vistas of world economy relations development, based on summarizing national and foreign experience of external economic activity in the context of national interests of Ukraine.

Professional skills in global economy and world economy relations are being formed on the basis of all-round, profound knowledge of basic disciplines of fundamental and professionally oriented profile. Nowadays training of future specialists of international economics is realized by the teaching staff of the Department. It consists of 8 experienced scientists and 4 young specialists – the graduates of International Economic Relations Department, who carry out seminars in English.

The priority direction of the Department’s work is in combining theoretical knowledge of students and practical skills. The basic establishments of practical training are selected according to personal features and scientific interests of students (Ministry of Economy and European Integration of Ukraine, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian Union of manufacturers and entrepreneurs of Ukraine, banks and bank establishments, joint ventures, firms and other organizations and establishments).

The subject matter of the Department’s research is «Strategy and mechanism of integration of Ukraine into European economic space». The scientific work is aimed at the research of urgent questions such as: integration of Ukraine into European economic structures and world economic space; problems in financial sphere; cooperation of Ukraine with the countries of European economic space; economic safety of Ukraine in conditions of European integration. The scientific teachers’ developments are introduced into educational process.

Students take an active part in scientific and research work of the Department. Within the framework of the Department two scientific societies for students are created in order to intensify the organizational measures in students’ scientific and research work:

· Scientific club «The specialist in international economics»;

· Scientific club «The economic safety of Ukraine: problems and vistas».

The students implement the results of scientific activity in reports at scientific conferences and take part in student research and scientific competitions.

The compulsory condition for increasing the quality of training the specialists in international economic relations is the support of ties with the Departments of economic profile of other universities and with enterprises, scientific and research institutes, state establishments as well.

The teaching staff of the Department cooperates closely with profile Departments of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National University, the National Economic University, the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade, departments of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, departments of the Institutes of Economic Forecast of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economy and European Integration of Ukraine.
